The eastern province chief minister mentioned that under the proposed electoral system,there should be provisions to safeguard the representativeness of the people residing in the outer regions of north and east.
Further when questioned about a proposed electorial system he said that;even if an electorial system combining both constituency and propotional electorial system was introduced there is fear amongnst the minority that there may be changes in the seats obtained through the propotional elections.
If elections were conducted through the mixed electorial system, the votes of the minority living amongst the majority may be scattered as more seats are being provided by the constituency system.
Every citizen of the country,whether it be the majority community or the minority, should have the due voting rights under democratic politics.Therefore the government should give proper consideration towards a fair election when amending the electoral system as it is what decides the future politics of a community.And it also aids the government win the hearts of the minority
Further speaking the eastern chief minister stressed a request on appointing a representative to represent the needs and aspirations of the minority.
Also he mentioned that reducing the cuttoffs in areas where minority reside among the majority would bring justice to the minority.
