The Medical Researchers say that a plant similar to mukunuwenna which causes kidney disease is spreading throughout the island.

According to the Senior Lecturer of Rajarata University, Dr. Channa Jayasumana, this new plant is identified as kimbulwenna and it has a high potential of absorbing a large quantity of toxic components which could affect the kidney.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Department of Agriculture, Dr. W. M. W. Weerakoon said although kimbulwenna plant spread in the country several years ago, there were no reports of the spread of this plant recently.

However, he said that he would look into the matter.
